Most photographers would agree about two things. First, the lens is just as important as the DSLR you attach it to. And second, the guy behind the camera is more important than the camera. While this not likely, he should have the camera checked before he gives up on it. I am not aware of a Canon DSLR produced within the past 3 years that did not produce excellent image quality.
